As the creator and owner of Sweetfern Soap, with a B.A. in Art from Connecticut College, I am a consummate DIY(do it yourselfer). It all began in Grandma and Grandpa Young’s little farm house on two acres in Toledo, Ohio. My grandparents who both experienced the depression were a priceless and pivotal influence in my life. I was taught to challenge myself creatively, constructively and economically about the plotting and planning of the use of materials to make everyday objects. I used my Grandma's old coats to make skirts and bags in the morning and in the afternoon would wild harvested dandelion greens and Morel mushrooms for homemade soup. In my 20's, I became consumed by object origin and began making many items from scratch, soap included. I found the process of soap making thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. With Sweetfern Soap, I have literally interwoven my interest of natural fibers and renewable resources with my love for DIY. More importantly, I am promoting a product with integrity which embodies the concept that materials, ingredients and artisans hold an irreplaceable value in our society.
